San Salvador – Finisterre (Location)
Easter Week / Holy Week

In the process of being declared a national tourist interest, Finisterre Holy Week is characterised by interpretations and biblical representations, by local people following an old script unchanged for many many years.

On Holy Thursday the last supper and the prayer of the orchards is depicted and represented. On Good Friday morning, the procession runs through town streets and at night the saints burial ceremony, with a great display of images, lots of characters, thousands of faithful devotees star in one of the biggest and most fervorous processions in Galicia.

Without doubt, the most important event of the Holy Week of Finisterre is the staging of the resurection of Christ which is represented and acted out on Easter Sunday morning. This religious event whose texts have remained unchanged for hundreds of years, attracts thousands of visitors each year interested in both the religious and cultural values of the festivities.

For all its peculiarities, Finisterre Holy Week is unique and highlights the fact that the emphasis is not put on the Death of Christ, but on the Resurrection, its light that overcomes darkness and the belief that life is stronger that death.

People from Finisterre organise their Holy Week with a lot of focus and passion, a source of pride for this fisherman town nestled in the confines of the old Europe.
